Green MP Benjamin “Bussy” Doyle has finally resigned, but only after months of mounting outrage over his shocking and inappropriate social media behaviour. Just last week, Doyle was posting videos of himself swinging on a playground swing, seemingly attempting to appeal to children. In anyone’s view, this should have kept him at least 50 metres away from any playground in the country.
This is far more than just poor judgement. Doyle’s social media history includes disturbing paedophilic symbolism and images of himself kissing children on the lips. These are not mere lapses in taste. They are behaviours that should have immediately ended any claim he had to public office. Doyle clung to his parliamentary seat, defending his posts with an air of political naivety, even as alarm and disgust grew across the country.
Those on X who relentlessly exposed his posts deserve full recognition. Their vigilance shone a light on behaviour that is not just inappropriate, but deeply troubling and potentially dangerous. Without their scrutiny, a man who repeatedly blurred the line between adult behaviour and predatory signals might have remained in a position of public trust, endangering both the public and the integrity of Parliament.
Doyle’s resignation is overdue. It should have happened months ago. His actions are a reminder that holding public office is not a right. It is a privilege that comes with responsibility and accountability. The trust of the community is sacred, and when a politician demonstrates such a shocking lack of judgement and moral compass, decisive action is essential.
This case also demonstrates the power of public oversight. Social media scrutiny, combined with collective outrage, forced a man whose behaviour was wholly incompatible with the responsibilities of office to step down. Benjamin Doyle may have vacated Parliament, but his social media record remains a stark warning.
Elected officials are accountable, and there are limits to what society will tolerate.
Brilliant
But what are the Greens up to?
Positioning themselves better for next years election?
Doyle was a liability - he had to go…but have you seen who is left?!!
Vomit…
Don’t you love how under MMP The Greens treat representation like a circus ride…just get off when they’ve had enough - got caught stealing - etc etc…got enough tax payer benefits… disgusting on every front
I wonder how the MSM are going to spin this tonight. Blaming 'vocal right wing social media activists' probably. We know the truth though. So glad he's gone.
