Green Party MP, Benjamin Doyle, has come under scrutiny following the discovery of concerning social media posts linked to his Instagram account. The posts, initially uncovered by users on X (formerly Twitter), have raised serious questions about his online activity and conduct as a public official.
Doyle, a self-proclaimed advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, reportedly managed an Instagram account under the handle @biblebeltbussy. The term "bussy" is commonly understood as a slang combination of "boy" and "pussy," referring to the male anus.
Among the posts raising alarm was an image of a young child sitting on Doyle’s knee, captioned "Bussy galore." This choice of words has led to accusations that Doyle was making an inappropriate reference to the child. Another post featured Doyle kissing a young child on the lips, accompanied by a caption indicating he would "never stop" doing so.
Following the exposure of these posts, Doyle swiftly made his Instagram account private, changing the bio to read "ON HIATUS." Despite the controversy, neither Doyle nor the Green Party has issued a public statement addressing the concerns. The absence of any mainstream media coverage on the matter has also fueled frustration among critics.
This is not the first time a New Zealand politician’s social media activity has sparked controversy. Former Finance Minister Grant Robertson of the Labour Party was previously found to be following an explicit social media account titled "Cute Boys Philippines," a revelation that was largely ignored by the media and political establishment.
The revelations surrounding Doyle have ignited significant concern among the public. Critics argue that elected officials should be held to higher standards, especially when their actions suggest potential misconduct involving minors.
As pressure mounts, many are calling for a formal investigation and an official response from the Green Party. Whether the controversy will lead to political consequences for Doyle remains to be seen.
