Have we turned identity into a political strategy?
In today’s political landscape, it feels like ticking the right identity boxes is becoming more important than standing for clear, consistent values. The rise of candidates like Benjamin Doyle is a case in point, a person who publicly identifies as Māori, disabled, trans or non-binary, and uses they/them pronouns. Is this a genuine reflection of identity, or a carefully curated persona designed to align with a certain political brand?
