Hori McGory Eats a Moriori
Penguin lost their shit, so I wrote a book!
After Penguin had their very public meltdown a week or so ago, something clicked for me. Instead of wasting time arguing with a giant publishing house over a meme, I decided to channel all that energy into something useful. I sat down and put everything into writing Hori McGory Eats a Moriori (ISBN: 979-8-90148-508-8).
The result is a brutal little A5 book, based on both fact and fiction, that doesn’t shy away from the darker corners of our history. It is full colour, unapologetic, and written for grown-ups who can handle a tough story told in a bold way. The Moriori genocide is one of the most horrific and often overlooked chapters in the Pacific, and this book brings that reality to life through rhyme, satire, and sharp storytelling.
Penguin Books has completely lost their shit over my Hairy Maclary meme
You would think a giant publishing house would have better things to do than scream into the void about a meme. Apparently, Penguin Books New Zealand, led by Children’s Publisher Catherine O’Loughlin, has officially joined the ranks of the leftards who cannot handle even the mildest political satire.
I’m aiming to release the book before Christmas, starting with a small print run. If it takes off, I will happily print more.
I’m trying to find the most economical printer that still delivers good quality, and it’s looking like I may have to outsource the job to China to keep the cost down, but if anyone knows a solid printer here in NZ, get in touch. My paying subscribers on Substack will get first dibs. I’m not doing preorders or anything like that, and a mate of mine will handle the packing and shipping of all the physical copies.
Thanks for the support, and stay tuned. This one is going to rattle a few cages.
Oh, and before you go! Today is the last day of my 70 percent off sale, so if you want to take advantage of it, now is the time. It works out to be about two dollars per month for full access, first dibs on book releases, and the ability to join in the conversation. Jump in while it’s still live.
To my paying subscribers, a quick note. I’m hoping this will be the first of many children’s books for adults…
