Yes - appointments by Ardern (Coster) and Hipkins (McSkimmin), just for starters. they both learnt as staff for the Clark regime - that's where the instincts of coverup and attack may have come from.
Let alone National and it's dealing with it's own skeletons in the cupboard.
That same culture is also rife throughout other Govt Depts and Public Services as well. DEI and woke leftism, planted by Ardern/Hipkin's Labour during their term. The number of Full Time Equivalent public servants grew by around 18,500 between 2017 and late 2023... an increase of over 35%.
Thanks for this. Real change is needed at the NZ Police.
As a manager/supervisor of staff, over the past 10 years I have had to deal with staff raising issues ranging from a personality conflict, conduct in breach of the staff code of conduct and also sexual harassment.
In all cases I took the complaints seriously, listened to my staff and reassured them. I told them the process that the company had in place and proceeded to follow the exact process.
All the matters were resolved.
At no time was there any thought of protecting anyone that I was closer to, or be cause of any other factor, it was all about following the process.
In the NZ Police example, they have subverted the process to protect the guilty and also subverted the HDCA process to suit those ends.
As well a a proper independent investigation and reform, changes to the HDCA need to be made, there are several examples from the FSU of it having been misused - exactly as National were warned it would be.
That’s the difference between a good boss and a bad one, you can’t be biased when handling complaints. Even if you’re not a fan of the complainant, you have to stay neutral. I’m glad you managed to resolve all the issues with your staff, Ken.
The HDCA needs serious reform. If you can genuinely prove harm, you have a case, but some people weaponise it just to get back at others. I get called every name under the sun on X, but I just block and move on.
It's actually just a case of being even handed, listen well and follow the process. I felt I had a duty of care towards my staff. Why can't senior public sector employees, especially those entrusted with upholding the law do this?
As far as the situations I dealt with went, really all I did was to listen and follow/facilitate the process. It was the (Private sector) business that did the resolution, working with all parties involved. I got a debrief on each occasion for HR and my own manager.
If instincts of leadership is to collude, cover up and attack the victim, then that's grounds for instant dismissal in my book.
Atrocious situation for this young woman. Case against her should be thrown out immediately. All those involved in the deed and cover up prosecuted.
But sadly they will be slapped with a wet bus ticket and power abuse, isolating and victimising the whistleblower will continue - it is SOP in most Govt organisations.
Couldn’t agree more, it’s Trump Style’ persecute your enemies. Only substantial compensation, not a hollow apology, can fix this for everybody. If there is no cost for their mistake the police will have learnt nothing or worse they would now see a pathway to do what they want with no consequences and than I’m sorry.
Neocon is probably a bit strong and deep, generally that includes calling in the military? I was just referring to a style that is to lie and cheat and when called out, persecute and prosecute.
'Politics' basically around the world. People referencing Trump need to get a grip. Yes, he's directing his Attorney General to pursue cases against those who were in his view wrongly persecuting him, before the statute of limitations is up. A legal process involving a Grand Jury has been followed and the cases are to be heard in a court of law.
Remember during his 1st term 'the swamp' was working against him, the Russia, Russia hoax was in full swing and he was impeached multiple times.
Then the lawfare cases against Trump simply because he announced he was running again?
That's bad enough, but here in NZ we have our own grubby public sector, political sector and legal system that needs a thorough disinfection with sunshine and cases brought.
Public pressure needs to be brought to bare upon all political parties for Justice, not only in the case but through the whole system which swung into action particular during the Covid response and now beyond.
Hmmm… ‘get a grip’? I think the last time I heard that or had it inferred was when Jacinda said “don’t listen to anyone else, we are the sole source of the truth”! It’s a very arrogant thing to say because but I’m sure you didn’t mean it. You will understand that some of us don’t like Trump because he’s a liar, treats women with total disrespect, been convicted of sexual crimes against women, publicly tells people who don’t agree with him that they are stupid or dumb, can’t do their job, been bankrupt about 11 times, shows all the signs of narcissism, is a totally nasty piece of work but apart from that is probably a good bloke. The latter is probably what you see so it’s good that we can have different opinions even though we totally disagree. I abhor Trump, what he’s done and what he stands for. You don’t share that but that’s ok, you don’t ‘need to get a grip’, you’re entitled to your opinion. In the words of Voltaire, “I may not agree with what you say but I’ll defend to death your right to say it”
I suspect that if the porn hadn't been uncovered under the new Commissioner none of this would have been exposed and the victim would still be shouting into the void. The fact that she it being prosecuted is shocking.
We were at the Wellington Protest for nearly the whole time. We saw many instances of police brutality and lying. There were at least five instances, that we witnessed, of police fabricating criminal events and inciting violence.
I believe this is the very tip of the iceberg, please if at all possible, tell this woman’s story. I think NZ women need to know how corrupt our police force truly is. I have a family member who recently went through a gruelling sex abuse court case with a very poor outcome, she also has hinted at police corruption and collusion with the accused. It seems misogyny is a core subject for police recruits.
I’d love to tell her story, though she’s likely under strict bail conditions preventing her from speaking to the media or publishing anything. Things are going from bad to worse, and the worst part is that they’re still prosecuting her. No wonder she sent countless emails, no one was listening.
So time to start ‘lobbying’ the minister of justice and police? My relative gave up name suppression in order to out her grooming attackers, a male and female. She had to sit in court while her entire history was picked apart, with assertions she asked for it. Then the groomer, a female suggested she might top herself so she was put up in an AKL apartment with daily counselling. My relative, offered victim support. The female groomer challenged her sentence and managed to get her name taken off the sex register. She has permanent name suppression in NZ and a ticket back to Australia. During court proceedings it was noted the police officer in charge of the prosecution was very friendly with the defence team and showed no support of my relative. In fact encouraged her to downgrade her allegations from rape to sexual abuse.
I may be the only one but hve to point out that women are very capable of lying to get back at ex-lovers (they were having an affair apparently) She was emailing the investigating detective AND his wife (!?!?) with abusive emails. Until we know ALL the facts it is not wise to jump to immediate conclusions
Time to review all the coverups under this police leadership, being steered by Labour politicians? I can think of quite a few.
This is starting to reek of the Louise Nicholas coverup.

Absolutely insane, isn’t it? Robertson has a lot to answer for, but he’s just escaped down to his cushy job in Dunedin.

Disgusting bastards. You summed it up perfectly...this is now New Zealand culture:
'A culture that rewards silence and punishes those who speak out.'
Atrocious situation for this young woman. Case against her should be thrown out immediately. All those involved in the deed and cover up prosecuted.

trump style .... interesting .... how about Neocon Style
:) TDS?
Neocon is probably a bit strong and deep, generally that includes calling in the military? I was just referring to a style that is to lie and cheat and when called out, persecute and prosecute.
OK so like Clinton, Obama, Sleepy Joe, Bolton, Grahame, Ardern, Bloomfield .... like that maybe; all roads lead to the head of the Snake

Spot on Glenys

They need to drop the prosecution and compensate her with at least six figures. She is clearly another victim of the corrupt NZ Police.
Never trust police or social workers.
Lanyard wearers and their CYA culture of impunity...
Agree 100% - they really don't have your best interests at heart.
We were at the Wellington Protest for nearly the whole time. We saw many instances of police brutality and lying. There were at least five instances, that we witnessed, of police fabricating criminal events and inciting violence.
I heard all about it from a lot of mates who attended.
