I’m not sure what to say..

However - anyone that thinks that Maori tikanga will save us from the “demise” of culture - or that the Maori Party or Greens should be allowed near the governing table - need to justify/explain this abomination to me…

Reminds me in some ways of the happenings in Rwanda civil war 1990. If resentment is repressed for long enough it eventually seeps out.

None of us want that in NZ. That is why it is crucial to keep smiling at people on the street.

Unbelievable. Jut cant understand how he can threaten to kill and harm a woman and walk away. Just where are our corrupt courts leading us to? I hate to imagine.

It appears that participating in a tikanga-led restorative justice hui could lead to potentially avoiding a conviction, even for serious offenses like injuring with intent. What a bloody joke!

I know people in the restorative justice sector. (falsely called)

As it does not restore things taken from the victim or heal harm done to the victims as in this case.

But it does look to stop the flow of Maori into our prisons and so the law that should apply to all is not applied ... to all. It was meant to manage minor discretions not serious crime. But it was always a thin edge of the wedge

At the other end of this error you have wealthy people able to escape justice by buying their release from it.

Either way it erodes transparency and respect for the rule of law for all. And that's a slide into chaos

Agree with your perspective. Rich folk, or brown folk, doesn't matter. They should face the consequences and we need to get tougher on crime. It should be our DEFAULT expectation that we are not about to be robbed, bashed, raped or otherwise infringed upon. There is no single person in NZ who actually thinks, deep down inside, that it is ok to break into someone's home and rob them. Or to beat them up phsyically. (Or to embezzle funds etc for white collar stuff). No excuses, I am fucking sick of hearing them. Do the crime, then do....

Yeah, but if the bitch deserved the bash, then under tikanga, what he did is probably culturally acceptable.

Cue cries of 'racism', but it seems to me that 'Maori' are happy to hide all manner of sins so that their modern culture does not face criticism. This is why they never list tribal affiliations for criminals in the media. Why not if you do this pointless tribal-linking the rest of the time? "Maori" crimes are so often hidden via 'alternative processes' or equally, via Judges' leniency and uber-discounting to prevent incarceration. (I have experienced this as a victim when MUMA stepped in and hushed a reasonably serious crime up & the cops dropped the case). Gosh, imagine what the stats would look like if all these extra crimes reached a point of conviction?
