The left and their cheerleaders in the mainstream media have made a sport out of smearing anyone who leans right, slapping on labels like “far-right,” “Xenophobic,” “bigot,” or their favourite insult, “racist.” Strangely enough, that noise is getting very quiet lately.
Why? Because Ray Chung is running for Mayor of Wellington, and he’s blowing their lazy narrative apart.
Chung’s campaign is getting strong support from people across the political right, and yet the usual slurs aren’t sticking. The tired old “white supremacist” nonsense isn’t landing. You know why? Because Ray Chung is Kiwi-born of Asian descent, and the people backing him simply don’t care. People on the right vote based on competence, experience and integrity, not skin colour or ethnicity.
This doesn’t just challenge the left’s narrative. It exposes it. The truth is, it’s the left who are obsessed with race. The right is looking for leadership that can actually fix things.
@TheRedbaiter put it perfectly today on X:
“That the left and their media comrades have their knives out for Ray would suggest he is probably the best candidate. Especially if you believe ideology has no place in local councils.”
Exactly. Ray Chung scares them because he stands for what works - common sense, independence, and real solutions. I’ve written about him before, and my position hasn’t changed. Looking at the list of candidates for Wellington Mayor, he’s the one I’d be voting for if I lived down there.
If you’re fed up with identity politics, and tired of watching local government fall into the hands of ideologues instead of problem-solvers, it’s time to get behind someone who actually wants to fix Wellington.
Ray Chung’s official mayoral campaign launch is on Thursday 5 June at 6pm at the Public Trust Hall, on the corner of Lambton Quay and Stout Street.
You’ll hear practical, no-nonsense plans to rein in Council spending and turn the city around. You’ll also meet the “Independent Together” team who are serious about getting things done. Best of all, tickets are free.

Good riddance to Tory Whanau
Let’s not beat around the bush: Tory Whanau isn’t pulling out of the Wellington mayoral race because she suddenly discovered a noble sense of duty. She’s running because she knows she’s fucked. She’s seen the writing on the wall and it spells total defeat
For the sake of Wellington, I certainly hope Ray wins the mayoralty. Common sense is just so lacking in most councils these days, and in fact it doesn't even seem to be a necessary requirement, whether it is for elected councillors or staff working in the council itself.
I love that you guys think it's the left who are ideologues and that you're just all about "common sense".
Common to who? To the people who agree with you? Cos it's not making sense to everyone, so is it actually common?
I know you think you're being pragmatic and doing what's in the best interest of the most people, but guess what, that's exactly what those on the left think too.
So my question would be 'who stands to benefits most if Ray wins?'
