When I was at medical school in the 1990s, maori students who had gotten in to medical school on a 63 % grade average compared to non-maori needing a 96 percent grade average, were given special tutorials and special pre-exam tutorials and even often the questions to exams in the lead up to exams. nothing for European or asian students. then if the Maori students failed they could repeat as many years as they needed to repeat to get through medical school. non-maori students could fail and repeat just one year then they would be booted out if they failed a second year. that is why I would never ever go to a maori doctor because you just cannot tell which ones are good and which ones failed but got through anyway.

Exactly! So it reduces trust in these Maori professionals…sad but true.

In the early 80s at Waikato Teachers College if you were male and Maori you just got in…

I knew a wonderful woman - who has since taught her entire life - failed entry and was accepted as a second chance entrant…

At Awanuiarangi in Whakatāne I studied Environmental Sciences - I was put in 3rd year papers in my first year due to already having a degree…(but not in science)

When I learned in my second year that I had to speak in Maori for 10-15mins - I told my tutor I would not be able to achieve this with my current full time load in other subjects…

I was told not to worry - I would pass either way…

It’s been this way in education in NZ for over 4 decades…

Entrenched one could call it - but now it’s just blatant…

And the standard of education in NZ tertiary institutions is an international disgrace…

I'm tangata and feel like crying when I read this bullshit forced on us all. It's so wrong, and we all suffer. How enraging for everyone working hard and then along comes someone who doesn't have to try....us ordinary Maori don't want it either! The elite scumcunts and their willing guilty pakeha force this shit on us. I'm so sorry.

Never apologise for the racism of low expectations being used as a tool of power. Just keep rejecting the ugly white supremacy that sees every Maori person as needing a white saviour and keep calling out the racists. There's a lot more of us who want to be united than the the ones causing racial division because they benefit from it.

Thanks LDA.

Pity our captured Lamestream never want to talk to ordinary tangata. I AM sorry, not bc of something I've done, I'm sorry this has even come to pass and we all suffer under the yoke of it. Together, forward.

So it’s a double edged sword thanks to this racism? Don’t visit a Maori Doctor, nor a Maori Lawyer for fear of their being C grade students?

If one is enrolled in a course, and can't attend a course related session because of your race, you are excluded. #101racism.

I cried when my daughter told me that at university (1990’s) studying Law there was no common room allocated for ‘others’ There was a lovely common room for Māori and Pacifica Law students, couches, a microwave, tea and coffee making facilities.

My daughter just wanted some boiling water for her cup of soup, she asked at the canteen and was told it would cost her $1.00

which she didn’t have, the woman behind the counter told her she could get some hot water from the toilet block.
