most who vote for them do so as a protest/anti govt vote... so pretty much just low iq nihilists. there will of course be quite a few friends and whanau who vote for them in the hopes of some sweet nepotism opportunities.
I might be missing something but doesn't Tikanga mean the traditional, correct and "right" way to do things? Given that less than 200 years ago the "right" way to do things was the Rangatira's way.....not too many questions asked. He may have consulted a bit but his power was all-consuming.
It's crazy for us to think there could be any sign of democracy in a Maori party. It's about power and money pure and simple.
And Tamihere uttering the words greed and avariciousness to describe someone else!
If we a committed to teach the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi let us also teach our children about this man who actually personifies the meaning of the word hypocrisy in ways seldom seen in the public arena.
The irony of Erica Stanford's budget announcements regarding Te Reo Shakespeare come to mind. And speaking of the bard take a look at Shubz when you get a moment. He makes some fine points about all this nonsense...https://youtu.be/ouM1L9qbKNI?si=KSfwXYgqeOdUk6_t
Hey - Rawiri himself said Democracy is not the Maori way…
I think a few Maori are surprised to learn in 2025 what was so prevalent pre 1840…Maori were governed by those who managed to suppress all opposition - brutally. They were most excited when the British and Europeans offered superior weapons of war and domination…
They were wiping themselves out. And they would again!
Might is right- this revisionist history that informs much of what modern Maori believe about themselves is myth and is providing a smokescreen behind which the true nature of these warrior types is being fostered.
Not that all Maori are tainted by this - many - it must be said - acknowledge the contribution western culture afforded them (Christian?) to evolve and embrace democratic values…
A great analysis of the debacle that has unfolded within TPM. Well written Matua!
Anyone who votes for them must be delusional, they are only in this for themselves…….to get rich. They will give nothing to their supporters.

But this mob…well - let history tell the tale!
I'm sure Te Pati maori is run for John Tamahere's ego & pocket.
