Maori also used to eat their enemies to improve their mana and sacrifice “slaves” or captives and bury beneath their waharoa to strengthen protection of the village…

Um…should we teach kids this?

I mean where does one begin and end with this mystical knowledge?

Teaching lies and fairy stories as if they are fact is downright criminal. The idiots doing it must be stopped in their tracks and weeded out of the NZ education system.

This is the real crux of the matter: "there is a real danger when cultural stories are treated as equal to scientific fact". I was a scientist and I also have Maori ancestry and know my whakapapa and I'm gobsmacked at how the idealogues have blurred the boundaries. All in service of the decolonisation push. I recommend Corina Shield's substack: "Some truths about Maori they don't want said out loud" and Pat Heretaunga Baker's seminal novel from the 60s "Behind the Tattooed Face."

Aroha - it was from Behind the Tattooed Face that I was quoting…

The Strongest God by Pat Baker is likewise enlightening 🙏

You're the only person I've come across who knows the book! I'm sure there are others, but I'm plugging it for all I'm worth. It made a huge impression on me when I read it, not least because his lineage means that he can't be accused of making it up. I never knew my ancestors were not the "noble savages" of the prevailing myth back then!

Yes - I own a copy… you are right on all accounts - everyone should read it!

I notice they used New Zealand in the headline. Do they use NZ when it's 'bad news' and then Aotearoa when it 'good news'?

Like when a Maori person does something well they show their iwi/hapu but when a crime or something bad is has happened, no indication of iwi/hapu to be seen at all

Their own mythology tells them that the first discoverer was chasing an octopus when, oh look, a long white cloud.... it must be land. No following stars or birds. How many times did they sail past Australia and never discovered it?

I’m very glad I only have one grandchild left in the school system.

Who is approving this?

This issue is part of the biggest problem with our country (called New Zealand btw). We are at war and the battle is between worldviews. On the one side you have the Judeo Christian traditions from which technology, innovation and general scientific endeavour arose, whence came the Westminster system of democracy, common law and personal freedoms. And upon which functional societies can be built. On the other side, and rapidly advancing mainly thanks to pseudo academic white-apologising women and weak-as-p*** leaders like Mr Luxon, is a stone-aged indigenous understanding of the world.

Anyone with half a brain, and I mean seriously anyone who was honest about it, would not advocate for a daft system that believed trees and rocks have actual spirits. That we are limited in what we might do with water because it has a spiritual essence that guides us. That not swimming at a beach post-drowning is critical lest the evil demons be upset. This same society was eating people only a few hundred years ago and operated on a justice system that was simply about extracting violent revenge on anyone who may have wronged or disrespected you.

Teaching kids that this bullshit is actually the best way to cope with life is negligent and criminal. It is a blatant power game and such a dysfunctional model only prevails thanks to the support of idiot critical theorists in our education system who hate anything successful cos it ain't them.
