Wow he is perfectly right! But I guess he’ll be called stale pale male and this will go nowhere as who is listening to him that is in the beehive now! Certainly not luxflakes!!
I remember this speech well. I was on holiday in Whangarei, having breakfast at McDonalds & this speech was coming over the radio. I thought wow, amazing, at last someone is having the courage to say things as they are. Unfortunately, here we are 22 years later & nothing has changed & only got worst. I think Don was the last of the courages politicians. Going forward they have been extremely gutless especially now. Don has been my hero.
I just listened it was the first time I had ever heard it and have to say to my shame I would probably have dismissed the logic he spoke too because of his lofty preacher style of delivery. How interesting is that because I now understand fully the importance of what he was saying. I wonder how many other Kiwis thought the same........
Thank you again for alerting me to this speech and Dr Don Brash who in truth I did not really know about living in Australia until 2020. Had I know of Brash and his speech I might not have returned to NZ and called myself Rip Van Winkle.
I do recall my Auckland nephews warning me when I returned about Hobson's Choice, Brash and David Seymour but never really took in what they were talking about....that they had "bought" the racist line that has been levelled at him.
I'm wondering if that state is still in play. We're living in exciting times that's for sure. The internet and now AI is constantly moving us further to the idea of a universal intelligence. What intelligence exactly is the question. Bravo Brash for having such insight 24 years /ago......
Almost all the comments on Brash’s speech at the time and since just show that the commentators had not read it. I have, many times. It remains absolutely relevant.
Thank you, Matua, for this good TRUE recital of Brash's rational timely speech about our country, for which he has been maligned ever since - I have always wondered why.
Brash showed incredible foresight. Intelligence triumphing ideology. As a country we ignored his warnings and have slipped into 3rd world living standards. Soon we will be competing for aid with other tribal nations that prioritise race over merit and ideology and beneficiaries over quality education.
What we currently need is a younger version of him. Both NZF and Act have their issues, but they are still better than Luxflakes. However, some-one like him, Pauline Hanson, Trump and Farage who actually say what needs to be said and wont be put down for it, are coming out on top. Enough is enough of all the rubbish we have been force fed
And still too many silly New Zealanders prefer to look the other way, all for a quiet life or to be seen to be "nice". All evil starts subtly and gradually grows.....until it's so very big and so very nasty.
Don Brash is well over due for recognition of his efforts to protect our democracy. It's a pity I don't believe in knighthoods/damehoods, but if I did he'd deserve one more than most others receiving them.
I think a lot of us know that all of this maorification of NZ is perpetrated by idealogues & white people who are afraid of being labeled racist. All they have done is fatten the wallets of a few maori & pakeha at the expense of the good of the country as a whole.
To wit my very comfortable and successful Auckland nephews both businessmen who sent their boys to Auckland Grammar....they fear that "Racist" label like nothing on earth.......
I used to get offended by the word racist, but these days it carries no real weight for me. I don't hate any race. There are great people and shit people in every race. When I write about Indian immigration, some people label me racist, but my anger is directed at the policy, not the people.
I'm of the opinion that if the radical woke lefties are NOT calling you racist, sexist, Islamophobic etc then you're probably doing something wrong. The words have lost their original meaning and are now a badge of honour.
“Reaction to that speech was extraordinary. The media were almost unanimous that I was a racist. One Sunday paper devoted its entire front cover to a photograph of me and Pauline Hanson,”

Never too late David,. :o)

Almost all the comments on Brash’s speech at the time and since just show that the commentators had not read it. I have, many times. It remains absolutely relevant.
In my view, it’s one of the strongest political speeches this country has ever heard.

Ī really do hope that it never gets that bad.

Pauline Hanson is doing some impressive things over the ditch.
Is she ever? But it is all stuff that needs to be said and then carried through with. She's doping a Trump and putting Australia first!

Me too on that one.......

I agree, Ben. Those words are often used to shut down debate, just like misinformation or conspiracy theory.
Couple of skips and cut short.
Is there a good link to the text?

If you’re on a desktop, I think you can click the transcript near the top of the video and read the speech that way. Or you can read it here - https://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PA0401/S00220/nationhood-don-brash-speech-orewa-rotary-club.htm
Thanks Matua; so timely.
I wrote this about two weeks ago. I schedule a lot of my articles to go out on specific dates.
