Ray Chung is under attack, and it reeks of desperation. The moment someone starts speaking truth and gaining real public support, the leftist political machine kicks into overdrive. The latest example? The hit job they’re trying to pull on Wellington City Councillor and mayoral candidate Ray Chung. It smells a lot like it's being backed by taxpayer-funded outfits bankrolled by the so-called Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism Fund which I wrote about today. That fund has nothing to do with extremism and everything to do with censorship and shutting down dissent.
The same voices that said nothing while Wellington fell apart under Tory Whanau are now outraged over an email. Not corruption. Not incompetence. Not the endless stream of dysfunction. An email. Ray Chung passed on gossip he heard from a neighbour about Whanau's drunken New Year’s antics. He didn’t fabricate it. He didn’t embellish it. He simply relayed what he was told.
Good riddance to Tory Whanau
Let’s not beat around the bush: Tory Whanau isn’t pulling out of the Wellington mayoral race because she suddenly discovered a noble sense of duty. She’s running because she knows she’s fucked. She’s seen the writing on the wall and it spells total defeat
Wellington has been led by one of the most useless mayors the city has ever seen. Tory Whanau has been an embarrassment since day one. Drunk in public. Slurring speeches. Botched budgets. Council meetings in chaos. Staff fleeing their jobs. A city sinking further into dysfunction while she poses for selfies and posts slogans. She is the punchline of her own political career.
Now she has the audacity to cry victim over gossip? She claims a sex tape doesn’t exist, but she has never once denied that a sex act actually took place. That alone speaks volumes. Instead of owning up or setting the record straight, she turns to her favourite strategy. Claim sexism. Cry misinformation. Paint herself as a martyr. It’s a tired act, and Wellington has had enough of it
.
Whanau’s statement was nothing more than a smokescreen. She wants to make this about her being unfairly targeted, but this is about failed leadership. Under her watch, the city has become more expensive, more broken, and more divided. Her priorities have been all wrong, and voters can see it. While pipes burst, businesses close, and public safety erodes, she focuses on pushing Green backed agendas.
Ray Chung is stepping up to fix the disaster she created, and the political establishment is terrified. The moment someone like Ray gains momentum, the leftist media and their activist friends lose their minds. They cannot stand that someone from the centre might take back control of the capital. Their panic shows just how effective Ray Chung's campaign already is.
Ray Chung: The common sense candidate the left can’t handle
The left and their cheerleaders in the mainstream media have made a sport out of smearing anyone who leans right, slapping on labels like “far-right,” “Xenophobic,” “bigot,” or their favourite insult, “racist.” Strangely enough, that noise is getting very quiet lately.
This smear campaign is not about protecting democracy. It’s about protecting their own power. They see a serious contender in Ray Chung, someone who is not afraid to call things out, and someone who refuses to play their games. They know he cannot be controlled, and that makes him a threat to the entire left-wing gravy train.
As for Andrew Little, the man they want to parachute into the mayoralty next, he is nothing more than another stale Labour insider. He will bring more of the same bureaucratic rot that has plagued Wellington for years. That’s the last thing this city needs.
My support is firmly with Ray Chung. The left has had their chance, and they have failed spectacularly. Tory Whanau’s term has been a disaster from start to finish. Wellington deserves better. It deserves leadership that isn’t afraid to deal with reality, leadership that isn't scared of the activist echo chamber, and leadership that is prepared to fix the mess.
The left is attacking Ray Chung because they know he is the right man for the job. That is exactly why we should be supporting him. It’s time to bring Wellington back from the brink
.
Thanks for penning this piece. I agree. Just heard Ray with Ryan Bridge and he was a PR disaster. None of the slick one-liners and adept political side stepping such as you would wee with Chloe or Chipkins. No, no, this dude was genuinely upset that a simple email he sent has been turned against him. And what exactly did he do that was so bad? Did he parade a child on his knee and make a porno reference? Did he drive drunk and resist arrest? Did he fiddle the election at his marae? Did he exploit his staff? How about praising an African warlord? Nope, gumbo Ray sent a private email that someone has conveniently just leaked to the media.
Was very disappointed in Ryan Bridge (whom I normally like) who kicked poor Ray while he was down by teasing him about him losing a big funder. "Gosh, that must have cost you?" quipped Bridge. Ray's response? "I am more concerned that he may have lost faith in me."
His inept, Mr Bungle radio appearance has endeared him to me even more. He appears to have something seldom seen in Wellington - honesty. I hope his voters realise this.
Exactly our reading from Taranaki. Everything you said true but wasn’t it an old email too? Do we know when the email was originally sent? Whenever, it begins to smell. Someone had this quietly put away in their files ready to slip out at a convenient moment to help little Little.
