Yes it struck me overnight that New Zealand is allowing itself to be lead back to the dark ages prior to the Reformation. The days when the Church controlled temporal and spiritual realms some 800 years ago.

This is all being discussed in forums such as ours. Like subversives but never raised in mainstream media or politics.

I'm just so over of all this enforced fake bollocks, extreme culture we have in NZ.

All beautiful, spiritual and sacred about the land, air and sea...but then so ugly, unholy and abusive when it comes to what should be our most precious treasure...the children.

You’re not wrong there, but that’s one of those things no one’s meant to talk about. Inconvenient truths are just a bit too inconvenient sometimes.

Quite childish and backward at how they won't acknowledge their failings, but try and turn it back on you as for example, your failings in Britain 500yrs ago were worse!

Knew the Rahui BS would roll out quickly for maximum ‘glory’. Wait for the Iwi led regeneration invoices to turn up on DOCs desk.

And hey dude, you got a mention in Dr Brash’s Oxford Speech. Awesome!!! 😃😃

He said: “A Maori who writes under the pseudonym of Matua Kahurangi recently posted an article satirically calling for a “Thank a Coloniser Day”. ”

Morning Borris, yeah, I’ve been appearing more regularly on Bassett, Brash & Hide. A few of my essays have been republished there. I’m a big fan of their work, especially Dr Don Brash, and I’ve given them permission to republish my pieces.

Dr Don Brash is one New Zealander I admire greatly. Often the target of abusive comments from the activists, if any of them had achieved 10% of what Don Brash has achieved in his lifetime, they may command some respect. But no - they're the racists!

That’s the place to go walking this weekend. Make sure to take a video.

Maybe not this weekend, but if the rāhui is still in place a month from now, long after the fire’s out, why not? Go ahead and take a stroll!

The bloke who proclaimed the rahui on TZ1 news last night said it will be in place for a decade. Pumped with power but completely out of his depth.

Yes, don’t walk in to the fire itself - a fair point.

Often, following a significant event related to land or water, hapū and iwi will unilaterally decide to invoke the temporary restriction of access to a specific area that is then closed off to public use for how ever long they choose it to be. Maori refer to this practice as "rāhui", and it is supposedly for reasons of conservation (allowing regeneration to occur) or following a death (allowing purported associated "tapu" to dissipate out of respect for the deceased). In New Zealand women and children are murdered in domestic violence incidents far more frequently than any land or water related events. There is no chance for them to regenerate. They are gone from us forever. And while there is a tangi ("spiritual ceremony") held that shows the departed "cultural respect", the tragic circumstances of their unnecessary and avoidable deaths are cloaked in silence - no hapū and iwi ever acknowledging their losses, more often than not at the hands of Māori men who have a litany of bad upbringing excuses at the ready to try and excuse their appalling behaviours. In my view, this shows how little relevance is attached by Māori men to Māori women and children.

The announcement of this Rahui on TVNZ had a definite feeling of ‘off the cuff’ ?

Someone mentioned it could take up to 10 years for the area to regenerate, and the rāhui might last that long too.

Right on Matua! When I saw the rahui being given I wondered by whose authority and like you for how long. It seems it is for years. And does it have a god or gods of Maori type or maybe the Christian God. Either way, it is trying to assert authority where none is owned.

A 10 year restriction to certain areas that need to regenerate is the logical term that would sell it better.

I understand that there is special flora and fauna that resides in those areas.

A person on the ground up there told me today that the fire would've essentially burnt out as it went up the mountain as its all rocks, no vegetation, so Im picking while fire is unpredictable, the media where literally and figuratively pouring fuel on the flames of a story that was gaining them coverage.
