Auckland paedophile Thomas Fisher jailed for 18 years
Just a quick one for Sunday. It’s genuinely encouraging to see sick individuals finally being handed down serious sentences. An 18-year term for paedophile Thomas Fisher is an outstanding result and exactly what should happen in cases like this. It shows the courts are prepared to treat these crimes with the gravity they deserve, rather than leaning toward soft outcomes or misplaced sympathy.
What also stands out is that this is not the first Auckland offender with the surname Fisher convicted of similar crimes in recent times. Timothy Fisher, who worked as a mall Santa, was jailed for four years and five months last year. Two separate cases, two different sentences, but disturbingly similar offending.
It does make you wonder whether there is any connection between them. Maybe there isn’t. But coincidences like this naturally raise questions, especially when we are so often told these cases are rare. Either way, the key point remains. Tough sentences matter, and in this case, justice has been done.
