Thanks for exposing this latest grift, Matua. Never to be seen in legacy media.
As for Stan Walker's performance it's been said if his fans were one point lower on the IQ scale they'd need daily watering. Even my parsnips have better taste in music.
This entire “celebrity” space has been weaponised…
Bad enough…but it’s so tacky…lacks mana…
Disappointing - art/music can be about protest - the rebel spirit - but some of us prefer a more intelligent and reasoned conversation-this is so trite and unconvincing.
You're right, Katrina. I'm not entirely sure what Chris Bishop was referring to as "a load of crap," but I can only assume he was reacting to the performance being heavily politicised, especially with the Toitu Te Tiriti merch and flag-waving, which are connected to Toitū Te Tiriti, a company run by Rawiri Waititi's wife which is raising money over the next three years.
My best guess is that he was objecting to the use of a national awards show to promote political agendas. I'm sure that the media will end up calling him racist soon.
My understanding, too, is that it was the politicisation of the performance he was referring to, and not the performance in and of itself. I bet a lot of people would have found their 'brave' if it had been any other political messaging covertly inserted into a prestigious event such as this. Anything 'correctly woke', though, and they're as obsequious as hell.
An excellent piece thank you. Left wing politicisation of everything has sadly become quite the norm. Your point re double standards is well made! Daughter at uni advises that many lectures are simply Coalition bashing. And so many public events are blatantly TPM-advertising that they should legally carry a statement they’re a political party broadcast.
We saw Don McGlashan saying ‘shut up you dickhead’ to Bishop who was just expressing an opinion and using his right to free speech. It’s a worry when opposing voices are abused and shut down. It was ‘performative acclaim’ alright, and no one wants to be the first to stop clapping. The woke arts community has completely sold out, is anyone apart from Dave brave enough to call this out, how about you Jesse?
Hey Don, that knighthood you been waiting for is slip sliding away.
Selling the true Maori culture down the river. These celebrities are so stupid, being used for political gain. So desperate are they all for fame and recognition. It’s the same modern disease that exists in all societies, seeking fame, money and power. But stick a koru on it, call it culture and the masses are blind to reality. (Encouraged by the MSM)
It's interesting how everything in Aotearoa is such a mediocre, race grifting shambles. While NZ functions. If only the National Government in South Africa had renamed the country Azania and rebranded Apartheid as indigenous empowerment and Afrikaner self determination, nobody would have batted an eyelid.

I have to admit, there are a couple of his old songs which I like.

They’re doing nothing but harm. Loved the atm simile ☺️👊
Great expose. Bishop is 'Hero of the Day' at Fake News and the NZ Herald.
The political insertion was crass, and calling that out should have been done by more people, instead of cravenly bowing down to it.

Reminded me of a certain All Blacks hi-jacking an international stage, his team & his employer, to promote his political stance.

I've got friends doing law at the moment, the colonial bashing and tikanga are out of control.
