Why I’m starting to paywall most articles

Over the past couple of months, I’ve been blown away by how much support this Substack has had. It’s grown faster than I expected, and it’s clear there’s a real appetite for the kind of content I’m putting out - honest, unapologetic, and not afraid to call things for what they are, even if it pisses off the Māori elite and left-wing politicians.

A lot of my work is starting to get ripped and reposted on Facebook (and elsewhere) without credit. Some individuals on Facebook are even acting like it’s their own writing. It’s come to the point where I have to have a copyright disclaimer at the bottom of each post.

I put a lot of time and effort into what I publish here - researching, checking things, writing, editing, and I do it because I care about the issues. But when people start lifting content and stripping the name off it, it becomes a bit of a piss-take.

So I’ve made the call to start putting more stuff behind a paywall.

Not everything. There’ll still be free posts, and the big stuff will still be talked about publicly. But if you want the full detail, the exclusives, and the deeper dives, you’ll need to be a paid subscriber.

This helps keep things sustainable, stops people from taking the piss, and makes sure that those who value the work can directly support it. If that’s you. thank you.
