Sounds depressingly familiar. Rhodesia was renamed Zimbabwe Rhodesia... Then it was just Zimbabwe... followed by tribal rule, land seizures and redistribution, corruption, famine and an economic collapse of a magnitude rarely seen outside of wartime.
You're right. Along with everyone else with independent thought, I'm so tired of having this mental leftist shit shoved down my throat and the meek majority just keep their heads down and go along with it. They are way past being sheep here in NZ..they are lemmings pouring over the cliff.
I'd be happy to rename New Zealand to Aotearoa New Zealand but only if all race based policies were revoked, the Waitangi Tribunal was shutdown and all Treaty settlements were finalised.
Nah, sorry Mike. I am greedy. I just want a country where all citizens are treated equally regardless of their race. AND at the same time, I would like leftist fuckwits to stop referring to the country our brave forebears fought for by some made up name. Oh, and if I could also ask that the Media stop aiding & abetting these woke agendas. Is it unfair of Boris to want this?
p.s. There is actually a shit-ton more that Boris wants, but one thing at a time huh?
Cheers Sande. While I was lying in bed yesterday morning with a brutal hangover, it hit me just how divisive the name really is. The country’s name is New Zealand – the very name my two grandfathers went to war for. It doesn’t need changing to be “bilingual”, if you can even call it that.
For a bunch of wankers who keep referring to the Treaty (or te tiriti, like that makes any difference...), they seem happy to overlook the following part of the Preamble:
'Ko Wikitoria te Kuini o Ingarani i tana mahara atawai ki nga Rangatira me nga Hapu o Nu Tirani
...'
Or in a language we can all understand:
'Her Majesty Victoria Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland regarding with Her Royal Favor the Native Chiefs and Tribes of New Zealand...'
No 'Aoteafuckingroa' to be found. This is just another of their stupid Goebellian games to try and control the narrative. Control the language, you are half way there. (same as the stupid 'Whangarei > Fungaray > Fungaaahray' nonsense.)
Aotearoa was originally a name for the North Island Along with Te Ika a Maui. (the Fish of Maui) My elders used Te Ika a Maui in formal speeches, (not Aotearoa) and so even that winks at things now lost.
Te Waipounamu being our name for the South Island mainland. And a name with great mana in itself.
So the use of Aotearoa would not only create national division, as Matua has rightly pointed out, but it would create tribal divisions along north and south lines.
As an example the USA is not known as the Yankees and Rebel States. The use of the USA being a way to heal those raw divides.
Those raw divides still exist within Maori society and will likely flow into any renaming of New Zealand.
Considering the name Aotearoa is a made up name and made up by an Englishman for a book - it hardly passes muster. If maori want a name then it should be a purely maori name but guess they will never agree on the one name.
I don’t think a referendum is needed. The flag one cost taxpayers $26 million. The country’s name is New Zealand. If people want to call it Aotearoa or New Zealand, that’s up to them - we’ll all understand what they mean. But officially changing it by referendum? That’s a hard no from me.
I have to disagree. The cost of the referendum would be worth having this thorn in our collective sides sorted once and for all. For too long this has been simmering, with the usual suspects (the woke, lefties, and businesses trying to show how virtuous they are) using Aotearoa willy-nilly. A referendum would put this to bed. The reason there won’t be a referendum, isn’t down to cost (the flag referendum proved that), but because the powers that be know full well the outcome would be ‘New Zealand’. Bring it on!!!

You're not wrong, Tina!
Fun fact: On my Acorn computer back in the early 1990s, Lemmings was my favourite game.
Yeah - Lemmings was our all-time favourite. Never been bettered.
Yeah I loved Lemmings too!

Another great article

They never had a name for the whole country...fact!
And if you read the Maori version of the ToW New Zealand is called Nu Tirani.
We had a referendum about the flag, so it seems logical to have one about the country's name.

We need to move to digital voting and referendums via blockchain.
That would be much more secure.

If we are going to have a referendum, then let's vote on the Maori Seats and all race-based policies at the same time...
Brilliant idea JB!
