How many times does it need to be said? The people who sign up for this “run it straight” garbage are not tough, not brave, and definitely not intelligent. They are straight-up fucking stupid. And now, thanks to his own idiocy, former Kiwis and NRL player Kevin Proctor has finally got the brain injury to match the decision-making.
Footage from Dubai shows Proctor hitting the deck like a sack of rocks after a head clash in what can only be described as a car crash in slow motion. He suffered a seizure on the ground, right there in front of cameras and a bunch of halfwits cheering him on. This wasn’t a tackle in a professional rugby match. It was two blokes sprinting at each other like deranged bulls for a glorified TikTok moment.
Proctor, once a respected NRL veteran with 283 games and 22 tests for the Kiwis under his belt, has now reduced himself to being a walking cautionary tale in a clown show. He signed up for an exhibition brawl against Australian influencer and professional oxygen thief Jordan Simi, all for the honour of partaking in a $200,000 idiocy contest called the “Runit Championship League.”
You have to be unbelievably dim to look at this setup and think, “Yeah, this seems smart.” You’ve got meatheads flying to the Middle East to bash their skulls together in front of a crowd of dribbling fans. No strategy, no defence, no brain cells. Just run, hit, collapse, foam at the mouth, collect your cheque if you can still walk. It’s less a sport and more a live demonstration of what not to do with a functioning brain.
At this point, it’s hard to even feel sorry. When grown men decide that likes and livestreams are worth more than their central nervous system, what’s left to say? These aren’t warriors. They’re walking head injuries waiting to happen. The kind of people who probably thought CTE was just another rugby league position.
If this doesn’t kill off the “run it straight” craze, nothing will. Then again, intelligence was never part of the package. When your idea of entertainment is watching two ex-players try to knock each other into a vegetative state, don’t be shocked when one of them doesn’t get back up.
