You would think so. I do remember Shane Jones helping organise a march for three-year-old Catalya Remana Tangimetua Pepene, who was murdered by a member of the Black Power gang up in Kaikohe earlier this year.
Yes, the whole community came out for that event. Only question afterwards is what has changed since then? That requires ongoing support and dialogue with the commuity in Kaikohe for a start. Shane Jones gets a mention but no other Maori MPs, well, current ones.
Well, of course they won't, because however educated and civilised Maori have become, they are less than two centuries away from tribal warfare and stone age culture and they still function on tribal lines. So of course they aren't going to dob in any child abusers and murderers because of the need to publicly present a uniform front. In the big unveiling of Te Parti Maori's reset Waititi himself made a joke as to the difficulties he and Ngarewa-Packer had faced working together because of their different iwis, because these days you can't just do a raid over to the other side of the island and come away with captives, having topped the ones you have a beef with. I know my ancestors probably participated in raids like this, but today the raids are mostly verbal and are on integrity and ideas.
Thanks, Caroline. I usually write an article like this every couple of months to highlight how some parties will openly mourn deaths overseas but avoid confronting the same issues at home. From what I’ve seen, the reason is simple - if they start addressing problems here, they’ll be expected to offer solutions. It’s far easier for them to focus on events 16,000 km away.
I have been following you for a while and it is so good to hear someone speaking up and seeing that you are being heard.
From my experience as a guardian and caregiver for a child who has no safe family, I despair at the fight through the courts I have had to go through to get her the support she needs.
The abusers never take responsibility for the despicable things they do, often to their own children and always blame someone or societal failures, rather than themselves.
The system just lets them get away with it, time and time again.
The aura of secrecy and distaste that surrounds the young victims is appalling. Government agencies and, I think, the majority of society here just prefer it to be swept quietly under the carpet.
Innocent young victims of abuse are often treated as virtual leapers as if it is their fault and somehow they are tainted and can infect others.
Whilst the stories may be horrific to hear, they must come out into the light.
Unless there is proof and evidence of rape and abuse to a child, Police can do nothing. A young child's word is not proof enough, so the abusers get away with it.
Unless there is actual proof of abuse and neglect, Oranga Tamariki currently will do nothing, even if they are certain there is neglect or abuse occurring and others are making reports of concern.
Action is needed and I have spent over 4 years banging my head against brick walls.
It is not a matter of class or race, it happens throughout society.
"Unless there is proof and evidence of rape and abuse to a child, Police can do nothing. A young child's word is not proof enough, so the abusers get away with it."
That’s absolutely shocking, and something I’d never really considered until you mentioned it. I have close friends who went through similar experiences as children, and when they went to the police as adults, they were told there was nothing that could be done. It ended up revictimising them all over again.
I’m glad you’re doing everything you can, even though it must feel like a never-ending battle. It’s reassuring to know there are people like you, Caroline, looking out for our little ones.
We feel for you on this......I heard Jacinta Nampijinpa Price from Australia talk of this. Of the instances in the Australian outback where even still men are protected from the consequences of the real law by something they call "lore" which allows them to secret horrific abuses of women and children.
The fear as usual is that the lefties will find another cause to march and protest about, but you can bet yr bottom dollar our maori bubs will continue to die in the worst of circumstances without te partly maori and greens giving a continental. Sad to say but killing and abuse seems almost to be part of their dna. How many more will die at the hands of these bastards who it seems are never held accountable.
Their rage balloons should now be temporarily deflated with the Peace Deal. Will be interesting to see what comes next for the (paid?) perpetual protesters? Sudan maybe? (think not)... Meanwhile another dead baby, a 3 month old in Masterton....
So very well said. I guess we have to ask ourselves, who do these tax payer funded Members of Parliament really serve? Seems they must be OK with all this killing of little kiwi babies...just not the political ones in foreign wars where they can scream the travesty from the mountain tops, wave their flags and chant their chants.
Seems pretty soulless to me...and it's not just those guys...the whole bloody hive is full of them.
They are clearly serving only themselves. All they do is shout slogans and post complaints on social media, and that’s literally what earns them a paycheck. It’s absurd that millions of taxpayer dollars go towards paying the salaries of these good-for-nothing politicians. Soulless is a good adjective to describe them.
If ever there was a cause which all parties could share in it's this one. Who is the PM again ?

Well said Aroha 👌
Very well said! I always appreciate your input, Aroha.
This, to me is the most poignant and important article you have written Matuka.
Thank you for your work, let us hope more and more people wake up and start taking notice.
Well done.

And you are right Matua....repetition is the key. Keep 'em coming bro you're a bit of a master.......

You’re not wrong. The next one will probably be about how non-binary, trans, vegan Māori and Pasifika people are supposedly facing a genocide.
Oh god scary how they come up with the bs
No they won't .... they will find another distraction. It'll be up to NZ First to find the fix I am sure.
The collective victims will find something convenient to wank on about soon enough, spare us
Thanks for this Matua!

I saw that, terrible news.
