I wonder if iwi Maori feel they are being patronised by the tokenistic virtue signalling on NZ govt websites. Look at the way in which the headings are translated into Te Reo Maori but the important content is still in Te Reo Pakeha / Ingarihi / English. (https://www.ird.govt.nz/maori/nga-manatu-maori-me-nga-ropu-kaitiaki). However, let's be grateful for small mercies - at a pay rate of anything from 30 cents to 50 cents per word for written legal-type translations from English to Maori, it must be a very profitable gig for a translator with the right iwi connections! In a genuinely bilingual country, every word on every official website and document is translated into the other language.

30 to 50 cents per word is SICK! Bloody hell.

True observation. In Rotorua everyday now I witness acts of violence and intimidation and the like as my own whanau from Ngati Whakaue and other Te Arawa iwi act out their anger on the streets. Grandmothers beaten and robbed by their own mokos.

I suppose it's the nostalgia for days gone by? A return to lawlessness

Despite this I see none of it on Te Karere? C'mon Scotty you're a Te Arawa boy. Grow some balls brother and highlight the good the bad and the ugly. Theres a wero e hoa
