Peters and Jones have sensed the shift and know very well the public mood has moved. Gerry looked like the useless, toothless piece of slow-moving, fat lumpen lard he has been from the beginning of his tenure. Bring back Ministers with balls please. We are starting to see it. Hoorah!

Not sure why the sound is not working! It's been doing this a lot lately. But you can watch the full speech at - https://x.com/i/status/1947873170339528853

Absolutely agree - I and 5 million other New Zealanders have never been offered the opportunity to vote on this. We had a referendum on the flag issue, so why not this.

If the majority of Kiwis vote to change the name I will accept if, but I am not going to accept a name change by stealth.

Keep up the good work highlighting these issues, Matua - cheers!

Gerry is a disgrace

He demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the strict importance of using correct titles, pronouns etc

When did the Geographical board seek a mandate to change the name of my country??

Clearly they are yet another government department drunk on their own perceived importance.

Defund them

Winnie is absolutely correct. No such country exists. Name change - bring on a referendum. Stealth wont cut it where it counts.

I noted when I watched the exchange earlier that Brownlee bought up about the Geographic Board using the name so that is OK. Mr Brownlee, when did it ever get debated in Parliament that the name is change to the A NZ one?

What Brownlee has ignored is the law. S8, of the New Zealand Geographic Names Board Act 2008 sets the extent of the Geographic Board's jurisdiction. Claude (3) says:

(3) However, the Board does not have jurisdiction to assign a name to, or alter the name of, New Zealand.

Brownlee said at one point something like as the Geographic Names Board has "Aotearoa" in its name then it was clear that the 'full name' can be regarded as official. This is absolutely incorrect.

I bloody love it. Good on you Winnie. The Speakers ruling is irrelevant. A referrendum is the only solution, or a new Speaker...;)
